This Issue Is Dedicated To Joey Ramone
The Punk Rocker From Queens

Joey Ramone, the punk pioneer and leader of the rock band The Ramones,
died from cancer in Manhattan on Easter Sunday. Joey Ramone was only 49. The Ramones defined the punk rock ethic in the mid 1970s with their high
velocity sound, two minute songs and sworn to fun, loyal to none lyrics.
But in the 1980s, Joey Ramone, who grew up Jeffrey Hyman in the New York
City neighborhood of Forest Hills, surprised casual listeners to the raw and
raucous band by evidencing a more serious and decidedly political bent.
He wrote of the whole labeling controversy, "It's just a smokescreen for
the real problems: the S & L deficit, the homeless, the environment."
But it was just yesterday at CBGB's… Good-bye Joey, thanks for the music.

A Major League Liar And The Zero Factor

All the latest stories on Bush lies: He has broken campaign promises to
regulate carbon-dioxide emissions, he ended U.S. participation in the
Kyoto treaty on climate change, canned a rule to lower arsenic levels in
drinking water, slashed a rule to make air conditioners more efficient,
rescinded a plan to make sure mining companies clean up after themselves
and lowered his promise of a 100 million per year to help save Rainforests,
to only 13 million. Now Oil Company Bush plans to allow oil drilling off the
Gulf Coast, which of course totally conflicts with his statement during the
presidential campaign that he opposed offshore drilling off the Florida coast.
Bush on the environment: "What's all this whining about the environment?
They're always talking about 'stop the clearcuts'
I mean do the math people. If we were out of trees then we wouldn't
have any clearcuts to be complaining about now would we?"
Will Temporary be temporary, or will he survive the Zero Factor?
Seven out of the last eight United States Presidents that were elected in a
year ending with zero starting in 1840 have died in office. Four out of the
seven were killed by assassins bullets. Only Ronald Wilson Reagan in 1980
survived the Zero Factor, although he too was the victim of an assassin.
